Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari

Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari are the tandem amusement park and waterpark. Also, a nice perk is the free stuff! All the Pepsi and Gatorade drinks are free and the waterpark has free sunscreen. It is a nice change from the overpriced items at other parks.

Additionally, the park is divided up into different areas, each one corresponding to a different national holiday season. They specialize in wooden roller coasters and there are three really good ones. In fact, “The Voyage” ranks as one of the top wooden roller coasters in the world in most rankings. I had a friend describe it as “better than the Beast” so I knew I wanted to check it out. And while I’m not sure I would go that far, it is a fun roller coaster for sure.

Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial

The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is a great place to spend a few hours. There is a nice visitor center with a short documentary (like most parks).

Additionally, there is a short hike to get to some of the log cabins and farm areas. You can visit a few memorials to Lincoln. Also, you can see the rock atop Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address, which was moved here (from Gettysburg).

Owensboro

We used Owensboro as a home base to visit Holiday World, but we also spent a day exploring the city. We really enjoyed our time here. Additionally, we stopped at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame, if you are a fan of all things fiddle and banjo.
