San Francisco Downtown and the cable cars

San Francisco is a unique city and there is nowhere is in the US quite like it. Additionally, the city employs the historic cable cars that make public transportation an easy way to get around the city,

 

 

 

The Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most recognizable San Francisco landmarks. Its iconic golden towers are visible from numerous viewpoints across northern San Francisco. Definitely, it is worth a stop to get out and admire this technological marvel.

 

 

 

The Presidio, Palace of Fine arts and Fishermans Wharf

The Presidio of San Francisco is a large park on the northernmost point of the city. Also, the Golden Gate Bridge connects through the Presidio. In addition, it is a great place to begin or end a walking tour and you can visit the Palace of Fine Arts.

Lastly, from there you can head east towards Fisherman’s wharf and Telegraph Hill.

 

 

 

Alcatraz

Alcatraz is a popular tourist destination, nicknamed  “The Rock” and featured in the film of the same name. It has an interesting history. However, it only operated as a prison for 29 years. Definitely, it is a prominent landmark in the bay and will certainly capture the imaginations of children as they walk through the cellblock. Also, be sure to book your reservations in advance.

 

 

 

Telegraph Hill, Pioneer Park and Hoyt Tower

Telegraph Hill and Pioneer Park are located in the northeast side of San Francisco. Also, they are easily identified by the large landmark, Hoyt Tower, that stands atop of the hill.

We took a free walking tour of Telegraphy Hill (tips appreciated), led by a very knowledgeable guide. Additionally, they will guide through the maze of stairways and be sure to keep an eye out for the parrots of Telegraph Hill.

 

 

 

Chinatown

San Francisco has the largest Chinatown in the world outside of Asia and is the oldest in the US. However, it is vibrant and fun to visit, especially if you are looking for some great Chinese food. 

 

 

 

The hills and Lombard ST

Lombard St is known as the “crookedest street in the world”. Also, kids will enjoy walking or riding down the street and it also has beautiful gardens lining the windy street .

Additionally, just strolling around the city is a workout with all the hills. However, it makes for a fun cardio workout.

 

 

 

Haight-Ashbury

The Haight-Ashbury neighborhood is the area surrounding the intersection of Haight St and Ashbury St. It is located between Golden Gate Park and Buena Vista Park, just below the Golden Gate Park panhandle. Also, it’s a popular area for music and former home to the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia.
