Williamsburg Virginia 1 Week Itinerary

Day 1 – Drive to Williamsburg

We spent our first day driving from Cincinnati to Williamsburg. Additionally, that trip is about 560 miles. Also, we stayed at the Residence Inn Williamsburg, which is just a couple of miles from the Williamsburg Visitor Center.

Day 2 – Drive to Kilmarnock

On the second day, we drove about 75 minutes up to Kilmarnock. We had lunch at the Fish Hawk Oyster Bar in Irvington. Additionally, it is a cute town with some pretty view of Henry’s Creek, which empties into the Chesapeake Bay.

Day 3 – Jamestown Settlement and Colonial Williamsburg

Since Jamestown is only about a 15 minute drive from Williamsburg, we decided to break up Jamestown Settlement and Historic Jamestown into separate days. Additionally, we could get lunch before going to Williamsburg and gave a little walking break. Also, it took us about 2 hours to visit Jamestown Settlement. Lastly, at Colonial Williamsburg, we saw a presentation, did a few trades, visited the Capitol, George Wythe House and Governor’s Palace.

Day 4 – Colonial Williamsburg

On our second day in Williamsburg, we spent a full day exploring the grounds. Also, we did some more trades, had lunch at the Kings Arms, saw a trial at the courthouse and visited the art museum.

Day 5 – Historic Jamestowne and Colonial Williamsburg

We visited Historic Jamestowne this day. Additionally, if you go on a weekday you can see the archaeologists at the dig site. After stopping for lunch, we headed back to Williamsburg for a 1pm Stable tour. After the tour, we stopped for a tour of the Raleigh Tavern and Peyton Randolph House. We stopped back to our hotel before an evening reservation at the Christiana Campbell’s Tavern.

Day 6 – American Revolution Museum and Yorktown Battlefield

We went to the American Revolution Museum in the morning for about 2 hours and then got lunch at the Yorktown Pub. Also, after lunch, we stopped at the Yorktown Battlefield national park site and did the driving tour of the battlefields, stopping to walk around some of the sites. I wish we would have had some time to walk around town, but the kids were getting tired.

Day 7 – Monroe’s Highland and Jefferson’s Monticello

We left Williamsburg and drove the two hours to Charlottesville. First, we had a reservation for James Monroe’s Highland. However, even though the home is not original (it was destroyed in a fire), they have a tour that details the life of America’s fifth president. Also, we had lunch at the Moose’s by the Creek because we weren’t sure if the kids would like the food at Michie’s Tavern. Finally, we spent about 4 hours at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello after lunch.

Day 8 – Madison’s Montpelier and Drive Home

On our final day, we went to James Madison’s Montpelier. Additionally, it was a special “We the Kids” Day, which was fun as they had extra games and activities for the children. We toured the home and area before starting the drive home to Cincinnati.
