Big Island Hawaii 10 Day Itinerary

Relaxing day swimming at nearby Anaeho’omalu Bay “A Bay”. Lunch at the nearby Waikoloa food court. Grocery shopping at Walmart (Costco is also an option). Swimming at the pool.

Short hike at next-door Waikoloa petroglyph field walk. Afternoon horseback ride with 4d Quarter Horses (formerly Dahana Ranch), packed lunch at Waipio Valley lookout, afternoon at Spencer Beach Park, dinner and ice cream at Anuenue in Kawaihae.

Drive to Volcanoes National Park, Kilauea Iki crater hike (highly recommended), which includes Thurston Lava Tube. Chain of craters drive to Holei sea arch and dinner at Volcano House. We stayed at the Volcano House Rustic Cabins. However, in hindsight I would have driven back to our condo in Waikaloa. It’s only about a 2 hours drive, our cabin wasn’t cleaned and it was really difficult to get someone to bring out new sheets.

Isaac Hale Park, Lava Tree State Monument Park, Rainbow Falls at Wailuku State Park, lunch at Loco Moco in Hilo at Cafe 100, Hawai‘i Tropical Bioreserve & Garden, Akaka Falls, malasadas at TEX Drive In, dinner at A-bay’s Island Grill.

Morning at Beach 69, lunch at nearby Blue Wilderness General Store, afternoon at Hapuna Beach. Dinner and a show at Legends of Hawaii Luau (at Waikaloa Hilton).

Coffee tour at Greenwell Farms, lunch at Black Rock Pizza, Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park, early dinner at Lava Lava Beach Club (gets really busy with a long wait by 5pm).

Flight to Honolulu, Oahu. Bishop Museum, Foster Botanical Garden, Nu’uanu Pali lookout. Dinner at Smith & Kings and flight back to Big Island. We were meeting with a friend who lives in Oahu, otherwise we probably wouldn’t have gone for just one day. Also, we were able to use Delta points to book our Hawaiian airlines flights, which is nice.

Snorkeling at Honaunau Bay (also known as Two Step), lunch at South Kona Grindz, afternoon at Ho’okena Beach, Anelakai Adventures manta ray night snorkel. The manta snorkel was the highlight of our trip, do not miss out on this adventure!

Malasadas at Punalu’u Bake Shop, turtle viewing at Punalu’u black sand beach, south point, dinner at Pine Tree Cafe, evening flight home.
