to stay on one island or to island hop?

If you are staying a week or less, I would want to spend the entire time on one island. The exception would be to go to Oahu for a day to visit Pearl Harbor. However, if you are going for more than a week, you may consider splitting your time between the Big Island and one of the other Hawaiian Islands of Oahu, Maui or Kauai.

to LUAU OR NOT TO LUAU?

A luau is probably the most recognizable Hawaiian events in movies and tv shows. In reality, they are mostly run by corporate hotel chains and largely attended by tourists. In addition, they are expensive, especially for a large family. However, everyone should do one once and you can decide for yourself.

The Big Island

The Big Island is the biggest island and without has a doubt a lot to do. Also, make sure to visit Volcanoes National Park, walk on lava fields, visit intimate beaches, do a night Manta snorkeling tour or go horseback riding in Hawaii cowboy country.

Maui

Maui has lots of resorts, is home to “Jaws” surfing competition and the famous “Road to Hana”. Additionally, view a sunset or sunrise at Haleakala National Park, visit the beautiful beaches, go surfing, snorkeling, or grab a shaved ice.

Oahu

Visit Oahu and the reverence and history of Pearl Harbor, hike Diamond Head, visit Waikiki, Honolulu, take in some shopping and restaurants.

kauai

I have not been there, but  it is on my list to visit. Also it is known for lush tropical rainforest and epic hiking on the Na Pali Coast.
