545travel.com is what I use to keep track of our family travel. I’m not someone who quit my job to travel the world, I’m just a dad who enjoys taking vacations with my family whenever I can. If you are looking for ideas, check out a list of our travel itineraries and hopefully it can help.
I’ve been to all 50 states and now I hope to get my kids the same experience. Therefore, a lot of this content focused mainly on family travel in the United States and the National Parks. For any questions or site corrections, please contact us.
Family Travel
The focus of this site is family travel in the United States. Also, I listed the regions the same way as the National Park Passport book, which are shown on the map. However, I have split out Alaska and Hawaii into their own sections and included Washington D.C. with the Mid-Atlantic region for ease of planning.
Also, if you don’t have a passport book, you can pick them up at most NPS sites and it is a fun way to document your travel. Additionally, if you are visiting multiple national parks, monument and historic sites, it probably makes sense to buy an annual America the Beautiful pass.
October 2024
- 10/12/2024 – Since I was stuck at home sick this weekend, I decided to make a Complete List of All National Parks and Monuments, Memorials, Historic Sites and Historical Parks! However, it is only about half done, but I’ll finish soon!
- 10/12/2024 – Well, I was supposed to be whitewater rafting the Gauley in West Virginia this weekend, but got sick. Sometimes it happens.
- 10/1/2024 – I’ve been making plans for our Florida trip during winter break! We’ll be visiting the Everglades, Biscayne and Disney World!
September 2024
- 9/27/2024 – Check out the new page for Visiting Amache National Historic Site, America’s newest National Park!
- 9/25/2024 – I created a page outlining our Timpanogos Cave Day Trip Itinerary. We really enjoyed this hike and cave tour in Utah!
- 9/14/2024 – I added a page for our recent Park City and Salt Lake City Itinerary!
- 9/6/2024 – I just wanted to say thanks for visiting! You may have noticed something new, I’ve added ads on the side pages. I hope it isn’t too intrusive, these were originally just white space on the web browser sides anyway (or a small pin at the top for mobile users). - 9/3/2024 – My wife and I just returned from our 15th anniversary trip to Park City. We visited the Winter Olympics Training Center, Mirror Lake, Timpanogos Cave National Monument and Great Salt Lake. Details to come soon!
August 2024
- 8/16/2024 – I just wanted to say thank you to everyone has visited this page! We’ve had 494 visitors in the last month, so close to hitting 500 over 28 days! I’ve been going back over all my itineraries and adding a table of contents, more info and pictures.
- 8/10/2024 – I added a page for Monticello, Highland and Montpelier from our spring break trip!
July 2024
- 7/28/2024 – Spent today booking campsites in Florida for winter break! We are going to the Everglades, Biscayne, Universal Studios and Epcot!
- 7/27/2024 – Our page had over 400 visitors the last month, with over 300 from Google searches. It’s growing more every month, thanks for visiting!
- 7/25/2024 – I’ve been doing some site maintenance over the last few days, just keeping things updated, added details and keeping things refreshed!
- 7/19/2024 – I added the page for the Best Things to Do in Mesa Verde, wrapping up the third national park we visited this summer. I loved it and would love to visit for a few more days!
- 7/13/2024 – I’ve added another itinerary, our Southern Colorado 2 Week Itinerary!
- 7/11/2024 – Just added the Best Things to Do in Great Sand Dunes, go check out all the fun things including sand sledding and sand boarding!
- 7/8/2024 – I’m back with some new reviews! Page added for Best Things to Do in Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Also, it is super exciting for us, we purchased a new travel trailer! It is a 2024 No Boundaries 20.3 (Essentials Only). I’ll post some pictures and give a review soon.
June 2024
- 6/27/2024 – We made it! Branson, MO to Colorado. Also, Great Sands NP, Amache NHS, Durango, Mesa Verde NP, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride and Frisco/Silverthorne. We had to reroute due to 50 being closed due to a bridge issue and our car overheated in traffic on I-70, so we skipped Colorado Springs and stayed in Silverthorne instead. Sometimes you just have to make the best of things.
- 6/6/2024 – Ozarks and Southern Colorado, we are just days away from our summer trip! Late June and July I’ll have a lot more to write about!
May 2024
- 5/27/2024 – Not much new recently, but I have it on my list to get details on our Monticello, Montpelier and Highlands presidential tour. I’m not sure if it will happen before we leave for Missouri/Colorado, but it is coming!
- 5/10/2024 – It has been a few weeks since I’ve added any updates, but we’ve been busy! Also, finalizing plans for our Southern Colorado trip next month and purchased a used car, a 2017 Ford Expedition. The extra payload and towing capacity will allow us to upgrade from a pop up camper to a small SUV at some point. More to come!
April 2024
- 4/21/2024 – When I was researching this trip, I didn’t see a lot of information comparing the different historic trades. So I created a list of the Top 5 Best Historic Trades in Colonial Williamsburg!
- 4/16/2024 – I’ve added the Best Things to Do in Colonial Williamsburg, check it out!
- 4/7/2024 – Just got back from our Virginia trip and have posted our Williamsburg Virginia 1 Week Itinerary!
March 2024
- 3/24/2024 – Williamsburg trip coming up soon! Also, Jamestown, Yorktown, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and James Madison’s Montpelier.
- 3/20/2024 – Finally, I finished updating every national park page to add how long to stay in each national park!
- 3/10/2024 – Also, I know that I’m always trying out the best time to visit national parks. I made the page “Best Month to Visit Each US National Park“!
- 3/7/2024 – It has been a little while, but I just got back from skiing in Utah, so I updated my Best Ski Resorts for 2024-2025!
February 2024
- 2/24/2024 – I updated the Best Thing to Do in Big Bend and Big Bend Top 5 Hikes and Trails pages to update how long to stay. Also, what a fun trip through Texas and New Mexico!
- 2/23/2024 – We just visited Wright Patterson Air Force Base, so I created a page for all of the Best Things to Do in Dayton Ohio!
- 2/17/2024 – I’ve been wanting to get some more done on here, but we are finishing up basketball season with my daughter (I’m a coach) and add in skiing, taking the kids to indoor soccer, dance, girl scouts and of course, my work and I’ve been busy! I’ve been doing a little maintenance to things like the destinations page, but I’ll be adding new content soon!
- 2/9/2024 – I hit 100 google search visits! My most visited page is How Long to Stay at Each Park US National Park. Also, I’ve decided to updated each national park page with more information on how long to stay and started with Acadia!
January 2024
- 1/20/2024 – Also, I’ve included a page detailing Ohio’s 8 US National Park Service sites, the Best Ohio National Parks.
- 1/14/2024 – Today is the 1 year anniversary of 545Travel.com, it has been such a fun time documenting all these adventures!
- 1/13/2024 – Just got back from New York. My wife and my 15th anniversary is this year and we’re trying to decide between NYC or Key West.
- 1/7/2024 – More from our southeast Asia adventures, I’ve added a page for the Best Things to Do in Laos!
- 1/6/2024 – I’ve updated the International Page and created landing pages for Asia, Europe and Latin America.
- 1/2/2024 – I’ve added the Best Things to Do in Vietnam page featuring all the things we did while we visited there!
- 1/1/2024 – Happy New Year and I hope everyone has a wonderful and adventurous 2024! We are planning to go to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown in April, then Missouri and Southern Colorado in June. Starting the planning for a Peru visit in 2025!
